OnCare Hawaii Selects IntelliDose for Oncology Patient Safety and Practice Efficiency

Clinical Oncology Software Standardizes Best-Practices for “Paperless” Transition across 4 Sites

WALTHAM, Mass. (Jan. 6, 2009) — OnCare Hawaii, Inc., the largest cancer care provider in the state of Hawaii, has selected IntelliDose® to safely and efficiently manage complex chemotherapy treatments across its four sites.

After extensive reviews, OnCare Hawaii chose IntelliDose for its ability to manage the unique demands of the oncology specialty. It eases the “paperless practice” transition by fitting the existing workflow of every stakeholder in oncology care, and seamlessly integrating with OnCare’s existing Allscripts Enterprise Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Allscripts Enterprise Practice Management (PM) system.

IntelliDose transforms the manual process of chemotherapy regimen calculations into electronically verified orders. It will allow OnCare Hawaii to standardize 100 percent of its chemotherapy orders and administrations, ensuring the highest levels of patient safety and efficiency practice-wide. It also eliminates the high costs and potential for error associated with hand-written orders.

“We have twelve outstanding physicians and three nurse practitioners – which often translates into five different ways of placing orders. For nurses administering those orders, it’s a daily challenge to recognize the difference between a deviation in treatment and an error,” said Rowena Yee-Hoy, director of nursing at OnCare Hawaii. “IntelliDose is incredibly intuitive for all members of our practice, which makes it easy to go electronic.”

OnCare Hawaii joins more than 500 oncologists at leading hospitals, health networks and private practices that rely on IntelliDose to manage and track increasingly complex chemotherapy regimens for more than 19,500 patients each month.

“Realizing the incredible promise of the all-electronic practice requires meeting the needs of very diverse stakeholders. The larger the practice, the more complex those needs,” said Ted Owens, general manager of IntelliDose. “OnCare Hawaii is part of the growing movement of oncology practices nationwide to streamline operations and put the focus where it’s needed: the patient.”
