Opportunity reconsidered: maintenance therapy in oncology

Until as recently as one year ago, "maintenance therapy" meant one thing: It's what is given to patients with cancer in remission to prevent relapse. Today's perception of oncology maintenance therapy could be best described as a choice. In some tumors, it's used to continuously challenge the tumor. In other situations, physicians would rather give the patient a break from aggressive therapy.
