Approximately 250 of the drugs most likely to be used in an oncology practice have dose limits, contraindications, compatible fluids, administration instructions, and billing/ reimbursement information.
The basis of IntelliDose order writing are treatment templates organized in cycles to produce a complete plan of treatment. Entire multi-cycle treatment plans can be built for virtually all levels of complexity related to polychemotherapy, supportive agents, laboratory studies, and schedules. Continuous infusion and oral medications are also included.
As orders are written doses are automatically calculated using patient metrics. Dosing variables such as ideal weight, serum creatinine, and creatinine clearance (when applicable) are seamlessly reviewed on the screen. Dose modifications are easily made and clinical reasons stored. The integrity of the order is checked for dose exceptions, drug and allergy contraindications, and abnormal lab values. The end result is a comprehensive and legible printed order. Patient safety is assured.
Additional layers of safety checks are included as orders are written. Single-dose, relative dose, and cumulative doses are checked, and user alerts are provided. Secondary alerts and hard stops are additional options to provide greater control. Cumulative dose limits are stored for reference in the patient record.
