Physician Compare MIPS Performance Numbers Are Open for Your Review

By Featured article

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced on Friday, November 30, that the Physician Compare profile pages have started the 30-day period to preview your 2017 Quality Payment Program (QPP) performance information. You can access your profile through the QPP website. After the 30-day preview period, and once targeted reviews are completed, CMS will provide access to the general public.

Practices must understand that this website will have an impact on their operations – from referrals to physician recruiting and third-party payer contract negotiations. In addition, scores will follow the physician, so new physicians you may hire will potentially impact your practice’s ratings.

There is a high correlation between consumer ratings and revenues – even a 1-star difference of the 5-star rating scale on Yelp can drive a 5 – 9 percent difference in service provider revenues due to the impact on customer acquisition.1

Reputation management becomes increasingly important as social media and the Internet become an integral part of patients’ lives.

The Quality Reporting Engagement Group urges every practice to review their MIPS (Merit-based Incentive Payment System) score on the Physician Compare site during this 30-day window, as well as keep a constant review of social media sites for your practice and physician reviews.

The 30-day preview period will close on December 31, 2018 at 8 PM ET (5 PM PT).

Please note the 2017 performance information is targeted for public reporting in early 2019 and will be added to Physician Compare and/or the Downloadable Database after all Targeted Reviews are completed. If you have an open Targeted Review request, you will still be able to preview your 2017 QPP performance information through the Physician Compare preview period.
